Welcome to our second Notable Guitar (we said there would be more). Guilio Negrini is an extraordinary guitar builder and a unique talent based in Stabio, Switzerland. He founded his company, Guilio Negrini Guitars (GNG), in 2006 and has created some amazing instruments over nearly two decades.
Background
In June 2016, Guilio was honored by a friend and customer to attend his marriage in Tokyo, Japan, as his guest from Europe. He tells the story in his own words:
“It was a beautiful experience, my first time on the island. During the celebration party, I was introduced to another friend of his, coming from New Zealand, who had collaborated with The Lord of the Rings movie making. Knowing my passion for Tolkien's world (all my guitars are named after his works), he donated me this precious gift: an original elven button he collected from the ground after a battle scene.”
“I've treasured it all these years, waiting for the perfect moment to create something unique. The moment came when the pandemic hit. A dear friend of mine asked me to create a unique guitar for him, his third GNG, giving me all the freedom to design and conceive an elven-themed guitar: The Elvish Brea MG6.”
A Few Details
This Elvish-themed Brea 6 features True Temperament frets and elven inlay from the headstock to the body, made of stones such as jasper (yellow), Tibetan turquoise (light blue), with some details in Arizona jade (green) inspired by Thranduil's armor (son of Oropher, Elven king who ruled over the Woodland Realm) tangled around an original elvish button piece from The Lord of The Rings movie scenes.
The instrument features a one-piece, highly figured Italian poplar body, set-in amaranth neck, and ebony fretboard. The matching headstock is loaded with Schaller locking tuners with ebony buttons, a Vines engraved volume pot, a custom GNG Balrog humbucker and Sustainiac at the neck position, and a 3-way blade switch. Engraved GNG Tribers logo (Gondor's tree) on aluminum backplate, Schaller Hannes gold bridge, Schaller strap-locks. Custom flight case made to measure with full aluminum lids and foam-shaped insides.
