This article launches a new series in our Features category designed to spotlight unique guitar-related websites that deliver interesting and, in many cases, valuable content. We’ve aptly called it… Notable Sites.
Nearly two decades since his untimely passing, the legacy of the great guitarist, Ted Greene has been carried forward by the Official Archive website, TedGreene.com. Originally built in 2005, the site has changed very little from a technology standpoint. It web terms, it's ancient. But it still runs like a charm... at full speed.
An Amazing Accumulation
What HAS changed is the enormous volume of Ted's work in many formats that has been accumulated, written up and made available free to the world over the years. To date, over 2400 lessons, arrangements, transcriptions, audio, video and more are downloadable. And the Archive is still updated every quarter with significant amounts of new material.
Guitar players from all over the world have recorded millions of visits to the site. And while the platform is not exactly phone-friendly, the site traffic and material downloads have never slowed down.
In 2018, a newer portal was built to add a number of support functions for the Archive. Among those is a regularly updated Download Index that makes finding specific material much easier.
While many of you are likely familiar with Ted Greene and his work, and maybe the Archive as well, we wanted to take an opportunity to spread the word just a little bit further if possible. You can do the same if so inclined.
In full disclosure, I might mention that my own connection with Ted’s work goes back over 40 years, along with some great friends. I also played a significant role in building the original website as well as keeping it running throughout years along with others who have devoted countless hours of their time to process and bring this treasure trove of work to the world.
As always, we’d love to hear your comments.
