Welcome to our fourth Notable Guitar. Pottstown, Pennsylvania-based Balaguer Guitars has been building a unique array of instruments since 2015. In this installment we are focusing on one of their Thicket models. This guitar comes from the Heritage Series, which comprises all USA-made guitars and basses with fully customized, one-off specs and features.
A Few Details
This particular Thicket was inspired by stripped down racecars/bikes, which is why they went with a relic'd, satin Olive Green to give it the look of primed body work. Also included is a Seymour Duncan '59/JB set that has the '59's A5 magnet swapped for an A2 and the JB's A5 swapped for an A8. Paired with Duncan's Hyperswitch, the hot-rodded electronics match the body work!
The nitro relic'd body paired with the oil and wax finished neck make for a very broken in feel, and the relic'ing is also extended to the hardware to give it extra consistency and attention to detail.
Background
Jake Trowbridge, Director of Operations, explains the company’s direction in his own words:
“Balaguer Guitars was founded on the principal of ‘where vintage inspiration meets modern design’ and that's a big part of what continues to make what we do so unique. Anyone can spec a guitar to be as vintage or as modern as they like, and it can be set up as such - the idea being to give the player the bandwidth to make each guitar their own. We also focus very heavily on our community, from bedroom players through to our internationally touring artists, by always putting the player first.”
