I’ve known Dan MacPherson for quite a few years, even before he moved his operation to Canada (Summerland, BC) from the UK. His career in the guitar world spans more than three decades and his work as a guitar maker is now highly refined.
Background
While he produces six different base models, the guitar we are focused on here is called The Rogue. Each handmade, The Rogue is a custom boutique guitar with a sale price under that of many factory made production guitars. Although no corners are cut, this model has been designed and built with cost in mind. The pickup and hardware have been carefully selected to offer a balance of high quality and reliability at an affordable price while still maintaining the high build quality and craftsmanship that MacPherson has become known for.
A Few Details
Dan MacPherson explains in his own words:
“The theme of this guitar was for it to look as old as possible – like an old sea chest, an old rifle, an old barn. Both the wood and hardware are aged to look far beyond that of a typical modern relic, but without any compromise to the playability.”
“There was considerable time taken to age both the wood and the hardware to this degree, employing a number of methods including using the dirty, oily solution leftover from restoring an old World War One era Lee Enfield rifle, which gave the body the old gunstock look. As a sideline hobby, I restore old Lee Enfield rifles back to original military spec.”
'“So far, this is the only guitar I have made with this kind of finish and theme, but I may make more. This Rogue now belongs to a guy in Texas, who upon my checking up as a post-sale courtesy call stated that… Yes I love it. All my other guitars sound like shit to me now!”
